Eastenders has *not* been removed from the schedule! It remains in the regular slot on Fridays at midnight. When in doubt, check our “schedule” page here on wliw.org.

However, please understand we do have to preempt the program during our quarterly on-air fundraising campaigns in December, March, June, and August to raise the money necessary to buy the series rights (among other programs).

As a non-profit institution, any funding we receive goes toward our public service and educational mission. When you make a donation and tell us what kinds of programs or series you’d like it to support, you’re casting a “vote” for those programs. The more “votes” we get for specific programs/series, the more likely that program/series is to remain in the schedule and new episodes/specials to be acquired.

The dollars raised from viewers in support of a specific series (like Eastenders) are too often not enough to cover the entire expense of broadcasting it for a year. We supplement the viewer support with government grants, foundation and corporate donations. Therefore, a portion of your contribution goes to support all of the other programs that fulfill our mission (like Sesame Street and Nova), but your “vote” ensures the program/series you love stays put.
