A message is only as good as the source, and that makes credibility a central feature of a good leader. You won’t follow a message if you don’t believe in the speaker.A good way to become a credible leader is following Kouzer and Posner’s credo, DWYSYWD: Do What You Say You Will Do.

There are three requirements for credibility:

First, you have to follow-through and make sure what you say you will do actually gets done. The second requirement is expertise. If others think you are managerially or technically inept, then others won’t think you will do what you say because they won’t think you can. third component is trust. If you trust someone, you are confident that they will meet the expectations inherent to the relationship and fulfill commitments made, and you need nothing more than their assurance that what needs to get done, will.
