Watch the full episode now:

While on a cruise to Annapolis, Maryland on the Chesapeake Bay, Host Tory Salvia, President of The Sailing Channel, introduces extended excerpts from the popular video, Mark Ritts’ Cast Off for Catalina, about the well-known southern California cruising destination. Learn proper preparations for sea and how to plan a safe voyage to the island, while sailing from Marina del Rey in Los Angeles out 30 nautical miles to Catalina’s picturesque Avalon Harbor. In Avalon, get instructions from the Harbor Master on how to properly secure a vessel to a Catalina-style mooring. Following a tour of the quaint resort town, the vessel circumnavigates the island, offering a lesson in the pros and cons of available anchorages along the way. Next, a shore leave stop at island hot spot Two Harbors, an underwater tour of the kelp beds and marine life, then back to Avalon. Throughout the episode, Bill McNeely, author of the authoritative book Cruising Catalina Island, provides tips on how to make the most of a visit. 30 minutes. ST and CC.
