While arriving for a visit to the port of Annapolis, Maryland on the Chesapeake Bay, Host Tory Salvia, President of The Sailing Channel, introduces extended excerpts from Hollywood cinematographer Bob Steadman’s firsthand cruising lifestyle documentary, Cruising with Bettie: L.A. to the Bahamas. When Steadman retired from feature-film gigs like James Bond, Blue Lagoon and Treasure Island, he finally cast off the lines of his 1978, Cascade 36 cutter, Bettie, with no return date on his calendar—and his camera. Kaye Nottbusch, a Hollywood custom designer turned canvas maker and sail mender, accompanied Bob on his travels. In the film, the couple takes viewers on a fast-paced cruise down the west coast of Mexico, Central America, and through the Panama Canal with many interesting stops along the way. Once in the Caribbean, Bob and Kaye cruise up a jungle river, explore a reef-bound wreck, avert near disaster at an anchorage, Hookah dive in pristine waters, and enjoy a classic Bahamian sailing regatta. 30 minutes. ST and CC.
