An intimate view of the life, work and techniques of Dutch master painter Rembrandt van Rijn (1606-1669), reveals why he remains one of the most famous painters of all time on the 400th anniversary of his birth in Leiden, Netherlands. Bringing to life the era of Rembrandt - the Golden Age - the film delves into Rembrandt's parental house, youth, schooling, studio, turbulent love life and heyday in Amsterdam. More than 100 masterpieces will be explained in detail, with special attention to one of his most renowned works, "The Nightwatch." Endorsed by the Rembrandt-400 Foundation and overseen by famous Rembrandt art historian Dr. M. de Winkel from the Rembrandt Research Foundation with contributions from Rembrandt institutions and museums, including the Rijksmuseum, the Rembrandt Foundation, the Maurits House, Museum De Lakenhal, Museum Boijmans van Beuningen and the official city archives in Leiden and Amsterdam.
