Visions® of Long Island

Gothic chateaus. Pristine beaches. Verdant rows of farmland. That’s the Long Island revealed during the WLIW New York Production, VISIONS® OF LONG ISLAND.

WLIW New York’s VISIONS® OF LONG ISLAND explores a new dimension of everyday surroundings. Breathtaking aerial photography soars through sunsets, over parks and down waterways for a new perspective on the landscape of Long Island. Lush music and moving passages from some of Long Island’s most notable poets set the mood for a celebration of the Island’s riches. Actor – and Long Island native – William Baldwin narrates WLIW21’s tribute to this beautiful island so many call home.

From the North Shore’s Gold Coast to the mystique of Fire Island, VISIONS® OF LONG ISLAND is an inspiring encounter – even Long Island traffic has a certain beauty when seen from above. Whether flying high above familiar landmarks or navigating through unfamiliar terrain, this program offers a fresh perspective on this suburban homeland. Viewers may not even recognize the town they live in! Everything looks different – and surprisingly dramatic – from above.

In Nassau County, VISIONS® discovers the synchronous symmetry of suburbia in the post-War patterns of Levittown. Opulent mansions and gothic chateaus recall the prestige of Gatsby’s “Gold Coast.” A flight down Wantagh Parkway finds its finale in the splendor of Jones Beach State Park. In Suffolk County, VISIONS® of the serene sands of the Ashoroken shoreline are a seductive escape from the malls and supermarkets that dot the landscape. Seen from the air, Robert Moses Causeway commands a majestic presence that leaves a viewer awestruck and Lake Ronkonkoma admits an astounding beauty many Long Island residents overlook. The Main Streets of towns like Huntington and Port Jefferson offer charming reminders of the Island’s early days. On the East End, the rural countryside and farmlands once prevalent throughout the Island retain the image of a bygone era, the North Fork’s vineyards bring a European accent to this New York landscape and the Hamptons lay out a quilt of tourism and tranquillity over the South Fork.

please please please re-release this on DVD or Blu-ray. As a former long island resident of over 20 years i sometimes long to see it again. I would love to have this in a more permanent/resilient format and would gladly make a purchase if it ever became available.
