One of only two full concerts ever recorded with T.Rex, the evening performance of the band's March 18, 1972 doubleheader at London's Wembley Stadium captures the glam rock band at the peak of its fame. Excerpts from this show formed the base of Ringo Starr's classic rock n' roll documentary Born to Boogie (1972). Guitarist/vocalist Marc Bolan, bassist Steve Currie, drummer Bill Legend and percussionist Mickey Finn play their Top 10 hit "Bang a Gong (Get It On)," along with old favorites "Hot Love," "Summertime Blues" and "Telegram Sam." Taking the opportunity to bring something new to fans, in concert Bolan loved to turn electric songs into acoustic numbers and transform studio recordings into raw rock 'n' roll experiences. Part rock star, part pin-up poet, Bolan is a cult icon who continues to influence bands to this day. A close friend of Bolan's, legendary music producer Visconti says of the live T.Rex experience, "[He made] this great music in the spirit of every great rock and roller like Chuck Berry or Little Richard or Elvis, (Bolan) was one of them. He was one of the icons. In the new millennium there are T.Rex sounds everywhere. Every so often you get a new group coming out and 'oh it's a T.Rex sound', it's not glam rock, it's T.Rex." Visconti, who recorded both Wembley shows, remixed the audio from the original multi-track recordings for THE T.REX ULTIMATE EXPERIENCE: EVENING PERFORMANCE.
