YANNI'S VISIONS OF GREECE: As the world prepares for the Athens 2004 Olympic Games, Greek composer and musician Yanni brings public television viewers his personal perspective on the country of his youth and inspiration in YANNI'S VISIONS OF GREECE, premiering this summer nationwide on PBS stations (check local listings).
Sweeping aerial footage shot from a helicopter-mounted camera highlights ancient temples, monasteries, beaches, cities and more while Yanni narrates with a mix of conversational musings, informative lessons, and insight into his artistic expression. Greek-born but a naturalized U.S. citizen who lives in the United States, Yanni retains a strong bond with the land where he was raised in the small village of Kalamata and often returns to visit. Describing his homeland in the program he observes, "There is magic here, and when you reach the pinnacle you feel a bit like the gods and goddesses. That is how Greece can transform the soul and the spirit." In each segment of the one-hour program, Yanni interweaves his personal stories of the region with anecdotes about Greek history and culture, including local food, dance, language and religious customs. The soundtrack for YANNI'S VISIONS OF GREECE includes "On Sacred Ground," "Enchantment," "Walkabout," "Secret Vows," "To Take, To Hold," "At First Sight," "Midnight Hymn," "Only a Memory," "Desire," "In the Mirror," "Flights of Fantasy," "Felitsa," and "Santorini."
