The Coroner

Solicitor Jane Kennedy (Claire Goose, Unforgotten on Masterpiece) returns to the seaside town in Devon she left as a teenager to take up the post of coroner, becoming an advocate for the dead as she investigates sudden, violent or unexplained deaths. With a new and intriguing case to investigate in each episode, Jane finds herself having to work with her former boyfriend, now the local detective. The Coroner combines mystery with the lighthearted drama of Jane’s relationships with her family and the community. While Jane is talented and tenacious in seeking justice for the dead, her personal life is a bit more haphazard.

The BBC series premiered in 2015 and is set in scenic Devon, the county where Poldark on Masterpiece and Delicious unfolds.)

The Musketeers

In 17th century Paris, law and order is more a fledgling idea than reality, and the royal bodyguards for King Louis XIII – Musketeers Athos (Tom Burke, The Crown), Aramis (Santiago Cabrera, Big Little Lies) and Porthos (Howard Charles, Whitstable Pearl) – are inseparable, loyal unto death and committed to upholding justice. Together, these soldiers fight for honour, for valour, for love, and just for the pure thrill of it. When d’Artagnan arrives in Paris to avenge his father’s death, he discovers kindred spirits in the three Musketeers. In a series all about passion, loyalty, heroism and brotherhood, d’Artagnan and the Musketeers struggle to maintain order and protect the King and Queen, while outwitting the machinations of the shadowy Cardinal Richelieu as he ruthlessly strives to achieve his vision of a modern France along with his hired assassin, the mysterious Milady de Winter. Witty, action-packed episodic stories combine with breathtaking adventure to create a cinematic, blockbuster drama series.

The BBC series premiered in 2014.

Wallander

Unable to unsee the dark crimes he investigates, Wallander’s job comes at a cost to his family and relationships. Kenneth Branagh stars as Kurt Wallander, a hard-working police detective in a small Swedish town. Each season consists of three murder mysteries based on the award-winning novels by Henning Mankell. Some cases take Wallander beyond the borders of Sweden, including to Cape Town in South Africa and Riga, Latvia.

The BBC series premiered in 2008.
