Billboard Honors 50th Anniversary of the NYC Landmarks Law

On January 14th, 2015, NYC Landmarks50 installed an 80-foot billboard to honor the 50th anniversary of the New York City Landmarks Law. Signed by Mayor Robert F. Wagner in 1965, the Landmarks Law was established to protect New York City’s aesthetic and historically significant sites. In the 50 years since the law was passed, over 31,000 properties have been designated, including 130 historic districts, 117 interior landmarks and 10 scenic landmarks in all five city boroughs.

Treasures of New York: The Landmarks Preservation Movement airs Tuesday, February 3 WLIW at 7 p.m., and Saturday, February 7 at 9 a.m. on WLIW.
