Cartoonist Roz Chast has been featured in the New Yorker for forty years and she probably loves New York as much as anyone could. Her latest book Going Into Town: A Love Letter to New York is a cross between a graphic memoir, a love letter, and a thank you note to New York City. Check out our interview with her here.
Roz was born in Brooklyn and spent much of her adult life in Manhattan. She and her family settled down in the suburbs and when her daughter decided to go to college in New York City, Roz created a guidebook to help her find her way in the Big Apple. Here’s some advice inspired by the book, for New York newbies and life-long city dwellers alike.
Focus on what’s in front of you
Make friends with New York characters
Be one with New York’s natural wonders
Avoid Times Square
Pay attention to the small beauties
