Day For the Bay! Nature, Learning and a Beach Clean Up!

Peconic Baykeeper and Surfrider’s Eastern Long Island Chapter are teaming up to celebrate the importance of the Peconic Estuary and the work being done by the two organizations to protect our beaches and water quality. The day will feature a water quality demonstration, an ecology talk, and a beach cleanup. Come to all or just one. This is a free event. Event Schedule 10:00 a.m. Water Quality Monitoring Demonstration We will provide an overview and demonstration of the Blue Water Task Force water quality montitoring program, a partnership program that monitors sites throughout the East End for dangerous levels of bacteria in our waterways. Grab one of our “Know Before You Go” stickers to stay informed on local water quality. 11 a.m. Marine Ecology Talk Peconic Baykeeper will be present an ecology talk on the Peconic Estuary. Bring your questions and curious minds! 11:45am-1pm Beach Cleanup We will wrap up the day with a beach cleanup. After the cleanup, trash will be sorted and counted to add to our growing database and advocate for solutions to reduce common beach pollutants. Please: -Dress for the weather as all activities will be outside, in case of rain or inclement weather the event will be head on Sunday May 22nd and email will be sent out a head out time to alert participants of any changes. -Bring a snack or lunch and water to enjoy during or after the program. – Some disposable gloves will be provided but please feel free to bring your own reusable gloves for the beach cleanup. Please register for the event in advance and let us know if you intend to come for the whole day or a portion.
