JANUARY 6TH INSURRECTION: ONE YEAR LATER
On January 6, 2021, the nation anxiously watched as rioters supporting then President Donald Trump and stoked by false claims of election fraud violently stormed the halls of Congress. Twelve months later, we are still coming to terms with what happened that day and what it means for our democracy. In response, PBS and The WNET Group produced a new documentary, “Preserving Democracy: Pursuing a More Perfect Union,” which chronicles the history of the democratic system from its origins to the present and the threats we are currently facing. As part of our new Preserving Democracy multiplatform initiative, the film also explores what the House Select Committee investigating the insurrection is seeking to uncover. Joining us to discuss the documentary are Executive Producer Dana Roberson and acclaimed historian Dr. Marcia Chatelain, who is featured in the film and is a Professor of History and African American Studies at Georgetown University.
